The council’s street lighting specification uses standard galvanised street lighting columns and LED lanterns to light the highway. The developer may be permitted to install ‘heritage’ equipment provided it meets the following criteria:
- It complies with the councils very limited range of approved ‘heritage’ columns and lanterns for adoption;
- The column is designed and manufactured in one piece and does not incorporate a ‘wrap around’ ornamental decoration;
The developer must pay a commuted sum to the council for the additional maintenance and replacement costs associated with ‘heritage’ equipment (please see Commuted sum section).
If the developer intends to seek permission to install ‘heritage’ equipment on the highway, please let the council know when the developer submits their application for technical approval. This will allow the council to advise the developer on the type of equipment that the council will accept in the design and to advise the developer about the appropriate commuted sum.
