Footways

Construction should be in accordance with Table 37, The council’s standard drawings and Appendix 11/1 of the council’s Specification.

Residential Footways

Where residential footways include vehicular crossings, the construction of the entire length of footway must include 225mm of GSB sub-base (not solely the crossing element).

Strengthening footways to accommodate heavy vehicle parking or over-running

Road layouts should be designed to avoid over-running of, or parking on, active travel routes by vehicles. Where unavoidable risk remains, particularly where heavy vehicles such as delivery and maintenance vehicles, refuse lorries and buses are likely to park on or overrun active travel routes they must be strengthened in accordance with the LHDG Parking Provision section in Highway Layouts and Design.
