Where a new carriageway meets an existing road, or an existing road is widened and:
- the construction joint falls within the running lane of the existing road; or
- involves any changes to the carriageway, including additional areas of carriageway;
The whole of the altered or widened carriageway must be overlaid or resurfaced unless the council agrees otherwise. At junctions, this must be carried out over the length from tangent point to tangent point of the junction radii. However, if the junction includes acceleration and deceleration splays (lanes) on the main carriageway, the full overlay or resurfacing of the whole carriageway must also include the full length of the splays, unless agreed otherwise.
