Tactile, concrete block and coloured paving

Tactile paving

Tactile paving surfaces (blister and corduroy) should be constructed at all controlled and uncontrolled crossing points in accordance with the latest version of the government publication ‘Guidance on the use of Tactile Paving Surfaces’ and the council’s standard drawings.

Use of Block Paving

Where agreed by the council, concrete-block paving to footways and other paved areas can be used. The concrete block paving must comply with the requirements of Appendix 11/1 of the council’s Specification

The use of block paving may attract a Commuted sum.

Please see Surfacing Materials Palettes for guidance on approval of the use of alternative materials.

Widening Existing Footways, Footpaths and Cycleways

Any existing footway, footpath or cycleway proposed for widening must be overlaid or resurfaced to its full width, unless agreed by the council.

Use of coloured surfacing

Please also refer to Road Pavements and Surfacing materials palettes. Coloured overlay and asphalt should be red with the precise colour type agreed with the council. Table 42 sets out the types of treatment expected in different scenarios.
